I met my friend Scott Schmieding
(and collaborator)
during my postdoc at PSU.
We often delved into meta-(mathematical, physical, philosophical) discussions;
for instance about evolution, intelligence, game theory, wars and Taoism...
As soon as the first LLMs came out, Scott was fascinated by their potential and worried about their dangers.
With recent events, hoping to cheer him up, help him take a step back and breathe,
I asked an LLM to write a dialogue between a Mathematician and a Taoist addressing issues with AI.
I first prompted
the LLM DeepSeek (free online) and shared the answer with him:
it was rather clumsy and funny, but did make an important point... Take a walk!
Scott liked the idea and reiterated the experience with ChatGPT Sol,
whose answer transcribed here is much more thought-provoking.
We both agree that the machine does not yet reflect the light, poetry, and immediacy of the Tao;
but believe there are several gems that deserve to be shared: enjoy the flow!
